"What I'm saying is why one story and not another. This is really important. This is not a joke. I mean, the Cohen brothers can say, 'oh well we figure out the ending'. But why that story? Why any story? Theoretically one is completely free. What I am saying is that the constrictions on the story are essentially emotional, dream like, a fabula, that in some strange way pre exists. It's in the human being before the work of art even comes out. Because how do I know when I write something and I go, 'that's it!' ? That's right!? How the hell do I know?
