da felicidade / control freaks

"[...] a felicidade é igual a grandes acontecimentos menos as expetativas, é preciso começar a perguntarmos a nós mesmos: “Ok, então porque estamos sempre tão infelizes? Comecei a perguntar a mim próprio, porquê. Aqui

The importance of developing skills

"The first thing about developing skills for ordinary craftworkers – people who work in what we don't think of as the elite sort of jobs, people who do everyday kinds of, both manual and service work – is that getting a skill in the craft is slow and long. One measure of the time it takes to become skilled in the practice of a craft is what's called 'The ten thousand hour rule'. And this rough number (but a good one) translates into practicing, for  instance, three or four hours a day, for five to seven years. The time that's needed to gain mastery whether one is learning piano technique, glass blowing, sport or surgery."
Richard Sennet

"Best-practice is a form of 'de-skilling'"

"Craftsmanship, says Richard Sennett, names the basic human impulse to do a job well for its own sake, and good craftsmanship involves developing skills and focusing on the work rather than ourselves. The computer programmer, the doctor, the artist, and even the parent and citizen all engage in a craftsman’s work. In this thought-provoking book, Sennett explores the work of craftsmen past and present, identifies deep connections between material consciousness and ethical values, and challenges received ideas about what constitutes good work in today’s world.
The Craftsman engages the many dimensions of skill—from the technical demands to the obsessive energy required to do good work. Craftsmanship leads Sennett across time and space, from ancient Roman brickmakers to Renaissance goldsmiths to the printing presses of Enlightenment Paris and the factories of industrial London; in the modern world he explores what experiences of good work are shared by computer programmers, nurses and doctors, musicians, glassblowers, and cooks. Unique in the scope of his thinking, Sennett expands previous notions of crafts and craftsmen and apprises us of the surprising extent to which we can learn about ourselves through the labor of making physical things." Self Determination Theory / We are wired to care / Motivation

It's no longer about the CEO, it's about the 'Everyday Joe'
It's no longer about fund raising, it's about friend raising.
It's no longer about tags, it's about price less.
What we do for love will always be greater than what we do for money.

"SDT is an organismic dialectical approach. It begins with the assumption that people are active organisms, with evolved tendencies toward growing, mastering ambient challenges, and integrating new experiences into a coherent sense of self. These natural developmental tendencies do not, however, operate automatically, but instead require ongoing social nutriments and supports. That is, the social context can either support or thwart the natural tendencies toward active engagement and psychological growth, or it can catalyze lack of integration, defense, and fulfillment of need-substitutes. Thus, it is the dialectic between the active organism and the social context that is the basis for SDT’s predictions about behavior, experience, and development. [...] research has looked at how controlling versus autonomy-supportive environments impact functioning and wellness, as well as performance and persistence."

Sweden Is Shifting To A 6-Hour Work Day

"Here are some of the benefits I feel could come from making this shift, all of which are of course dependent on how well the change is implemented and the work ethic of each employee:
— A more focused workforce: Knowing that they will still have an ample portion of the day available to them after work, employees should find themselves more inclined to be productive during work hours.
— Traffic avoidance: If implemented correctly, employees could potentially avoid at least one, if not both, of the peak traffic times for travel, giving them more free time and hopefully improving their morale.
— Improved social life: With more time away from work daily, individuals would have more time to commit to themselves and others outside of the workspace, hopefully improving relationships.
— A healthier workforce: The excess free time could easily be used to increase important health factors such as sleep, diet, and exercise."

do 'Animal Laborans'

Pessoal! Atenção à rasteira!

Sigam as seguintes instruções:

The courage, to change the things I can;
And the wisdom, to know the difference.

CRISIS? WHAT CRISIS?
