The unconscious in psychoanalysis and cognitive science

"Ego functions are intrinsically unconscious. ID functions are intrinsically conscious. The ID functions when they extend up onto ego, when these free energies of the ID extend onto the inhibited functions of the ego, they render the ego functions conscious. So it is exactly the opposite way around to how Freud put it. I'm sorry but it is. [...] What is pleasure without consciousness? How can you possibly speak of pleasure without consciousness? This is the very same Freud that said that affects always have to be conscious. It's no such thing as unconscious affect, said Freud. How can the part of the mind be unconscious where the pleasure principle reigns?"
Mark Solms

Id = Free Energy
Id = Consciousness
> Free Energy = Consciousness

Ego = Bound Energy
Ego = Unconscious
> Bound Energy = Unconsciousness

Se não sabe, porque é que pergunta?

"Each movement we make by which we alter the appearance of objects should be thought of as an experiment designed to test whether we have understood correctly the invariant relations of the phenomena before us, that is, their existence in definite spatial relations."
Hermann von Helmholtz

making sense

"In order to minimize the entropy of both sensory and external states... To minimize surprise, I have to believe that my beliefs will be very precise. It is necessary to minimize the uncertainty of the causes of your sensations.
Now, you can't know the causes of your sensations. You have to infer them, so what that basically means is that, a priori, you have to believe you are going to sample the world in a way that minimizes your uncertainty, or maximizes your confidence about the explanation for the causes for your sensory inputThere's a selective aspect to perception that is in the service of selecting hypotheses and explanations for our transactions with the outside world or others. That has to be continually upgraded and maintained and has to be revised in a dynamical way that in enforced by this imperative to go and sample the next most salient arena that will confirm the hypothesis."
