Sexual Double Standards
The Bias Against Understanding the Biological Foundations of Women's Behavior.
"Combating the forces that make people back off of scientific findings that might be controversial."
A Conversation with Martie Haselton, here.
We don’t know enough about important issues that impact women. We don’t know enough about potential side effects of using hormonal contraception. There’s a lot of speculation about it, but most of that speculation is problematic. If you eliminate women’s hormone cycles, what are the implications? That’s an important question. We still don’t know enough about hormone supplements for women later in life. We don’t even know enough about fertility. The data are also problematic. The data on fertility in women’s third, fourth, fifth decades of life are based on ancient records, 200 years old. The statistics that doctors will cite when they are telling women whether they need to see a fertility specialist or not are from a period before modern medicine was really in place, which is outrageous. More recognition of the biological influences on women’s behavior is going to awaken these areas of research, and that will have a positive impact.
MARTIE HASELTON is a professor of psychology and communication studies at the Institute for Society and Genetics and UCLA. She is the author of Hormonal: The Hidden Intelligence of Hormones—How They Drive Desire, Shape Relationships, Influence Our Choices, and Make Us Wiser.
"We have a study that shows that women, when they start new relationships and then they say that they have fallen in love with their partner, their immune gene transcription profile suggests that they are increasing their anti-viral resistance." [min29:12]

Como as emoções afectam a nossa saúde física
A depressão... A raiva, etc
Porque não tem que ser assim...
"There is a physical component to a feeling, but there is also a cognitive overlay. There's beliefs, there's values, ethics, there's morality, there's predictions about the future that are linked to memories in the past..."

do sistema imunitário
"There is mounting evidence that this might be possible. A whole new field has emerged in the past ten years, known as psychoneuroimmunology, or PNI, beautifully described for the layperson in the book The Healer Within by Dr. Steven Locke of the harvard Medical School, and Douglas Colligan. Simply put, studies in this new field are showing tht our body's many exquisite cellular and molecular defense mechanisms against infection and disease, known collectively as the immune system, do not operate in a vacuum to keep us healthy. As the term psychoneuroimmunology suggests, the immune system is now known to be regulated in parte at least by the nervous system, which integrates all the organ systems of the body so that we can function harmoniously as a unified organism. And of course, the nervous system makes the life of the mind possible. So there appear to be important interconnections, as yet only poorly understood, between the brain and the immune system. This means that science now has at least a plausible working model to explain how our thoughts and emotions and life experiences might, under some circumstances, influence our susceptibility or resistance to disease."

The tape that insists on sticking /balanços /Guerras que não comprei
[Acho graça ao comentário final do vídeo: "No cats were hurt".
Deitei-me cedo pois o corpo tem-me pedido mais descanso do que o habitual.
Mas a maldita palavra atormentou o meu inconsciente e acordou-me.
Nada.
Às oito da manhã levantei-me. Batalha perdida.
Vai-me tirar ainda mais sonos.
