Molecules Of Emotion
Why do we feel the way we feel? How do our thoughts and emotions affect our health? Are our bodies and minds distinct from each other or do they function together as parts of an interconnected system? In her groundbreaking book Molecules of Emotion, Candace Pert provides startling and decisive answers to these and other challenging questions that scientists and philosophers have pondered for centuries. Her pioneering research on how the chemicals inside our bodies form a dynamic information network, linking mind and body, is not only provocative, it is revolutionary. By establishing the biomolecular basis for our emotions and explaining these new scientific developments in a clear and accessible way, Pert empowers us to understand ourselves, our feelings, and the connection between our minds and our bodies -- body-minds -- in ways we could never possibly have imagined before. Molecules of Emotion is a landmark work, full of insight and wisdom and possessing that rare power to change the way we see the world and ourselves.

"music is in the present but it's also in the imagination and in memory" *
"Actually I think that 'Time' is the one thing that cognitive psychology has totally neglected, along with movement. But time is the fatal one. And I think the fact that linguists study the structure of language as text and don't consider the temporal patterns involved. That means they can't relate to other forms of human movement. [...] We have an intuitive desire to share creativity and this is all transmitted by rhythms of body movement of one kind or another. And I'd like to emphasize that the cultural knowledge is passed on as a poetic process which can be made rational for practical purposes."

Cool... not cold [nothing extreme]
With a hammer and nails and a fear of failure we are building a shed
Between here and heaven between the wait and the wedding for as long as we both shall be dead to the world beyond the boys and the girls trying to keep us calm
We can practice our lines 'til we're deaf and blind to ourselves to each other where it's
Fall not winter spring not summer cool not cold
And it's warm not hot have you all forgotten that we're getting old
With an arrow and bow and some seeds left to sow we are staking our claim
On ground so fertile we forget who we've hurt along the way and reach out for a strange hand to hold someone strong but not bold enough to tear down the wall
'Cause we're not lost enough to find the stars aren't crossed why align them why fall hard not soft into Fall not winter spring not summer cool not cold
And it's warm not hot have we all forgotten that we're getting old
And it’s fall, not winter, spring, not summer, cool, not cold
And it’s warm, not hot, has everyone forgotten that we’re getting old
And it’s fall, not winter, spring, not summer, cool, not cold
And it’s warm, not hot, have we all forgotten that we’re getting old
[Here and Heaven]
... a slight mistrust of strong emotions and how that is either part of us or somehow something that we now feel that it's harder to deal with .. [Yo Yo Ma a partir do minuto 30:40]

Como as emoções afectam a nossa saúde física
A depressão... A raiva, etc
Porque não tem que ser assim...
"There is a physical component to a feeling, but there is also a cognitive overlay. There's beliefs, there's values, ethics, there's morality, there's predictions about the future that are linked to memories in the past..."

Quão louco és tu? / A subjectividade do diagnóstico de doença mental / You can't judge a book by it's cover
Prof. Michael First , psiquiatra.
- Ansiedade social
- Esquizofrenia
- Transtorno obsessivo-compulsivo
- Doença bipolar
- Anorexia
O painel de especialistas terá de decidir quem padece destes transtornos.
Testes realizados:
- Falar em frente a uma audiência.
- Wisconsin Card Sorting Test.
- Limpar montanhas de bosta de vaca (fresquinha)
- Questões ligadas ao sentimento de culpa
- Attributional Style Questionnaire
- Paintball
O desfecho:
It's been a testing week. There's no doubt it's left everyone involved reflecting on the complexity of mental health and of what it means to be seen as normal by society.
e diz um dos especialistas:
"I know what people say about mental health professionals, nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, but we were really happy we got it wrong. From that point of view it makes a very important point for the public. It keeps us [professionals] humble but it also means that the public needs to realize that you cannot just look at someone and make assumptions and when someone has been labled with a mental disorder or with an episode of mental illness it's a very unhelpful thing to do to interpret everything they do through a poorly understood label."

Não resisto a colocar mais esta
Bem me parecia.
Diz António Damásio:
[...] The desire of the genes to remain and to be passed on. What would the genes do to create an organism that would be the most effective to pass on themselves? And the answer is that EMOTIONS become very very high with all of these things like reward and punishment mechanisms and drives and motivations because emotions are that sort of automatic intelligence that would guide an organism to do the most conveniente thing for that organism to survive during the time that its genoma (?) would allow it to survive.
So very early on, emotion must have been one of the very first things to develop. So we are really dealing with something that is now part and parcel (?) of our lives but has been here for a long long time.
[...] And then we have to deal with this very old system [...] and then we have to layer on top of it this new thing that we have evolved: cultures and civilizations that will allow us to be more pointed (?) and create the best possible behaviour.
[...] I think that what evolution gave us, very rapidly, was different kinds of processes, that were all of the "emotion" flavour and they made life more possible for a longer period...
