What we habitually see confirms us ... / Errante

"... Yet it can happen, suddenly, unexpectedly, and most frequently in half-light-of-glimpses, that we catch sight of another visible order which intersects with ours and has nothing to do with it."

John berger

Errante

Deriva compulsiva à procura do íntimo subjectivo.

Rainer Maria Rilke

“Marriage is not a house or even a tent…”

“I hold this to be the highest task of a bond between two people: that each should stand guard over the solitude of the other,”
Rainer Maria Rilke

HABITATION

Marriage is not
a house or even a tent
it is before that, and colder:
the edge of the forest, the edge

of the desert

the unpainted stairs

at the back where we squat

outside, eating popcorn
the edge of the receding glacier
where painfully and with wonder

at having survived even

this far
we are learning to make fire
Margaret Atwood

Amizade, intimidade, casamento...

"Our paradoxical longing for intimacy and independence is a diamagnetic force — it pulls us toward togetherness and simultaneously repels us from it with a mighty magnet that, if unskillfully handled, can rupture a relationship and break a heart. Under this unforgiving magnetism, it becomes an act of superhuman strength and self-transcendence to give space to the other when all one wants is closeness. And yet this difficult act may be the very thing — perhaps the only thing — that saves the relationship over and over."
Maria Popova, Brain Pickings

A marriage ought to be based on a friendship; not primarily just on physical attraction...

... Well... first and foremost... because the physical attraction is going to go away, sooner or later.

"I hold this to be the highest task of a bond between two people: that each should stand guard over the solitude of the other. For, if it lies in the nature of indifference and of the crowd to recognize no solitude, then love and friendship are there for the purpose of continually providing the opportunity for solitude. And only those are the true sharings which rhythmically interrupt periods of deep isolation."
Rainer Maria Rilke

on life and caring

"One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others."
Lewis Carroll

"When we were infants, unable to meet our physical and emotional needs, pain and pleasure came magically from the outside world. When the bottle or the breast appeared, our hunger was satisfied. When we were cuddled, we felt soothed. When we were left alone in our cribs to cry, we felt angry and afraid. As we grow older, our old Brain remained frozen in this passive worldview: good feelings and bad feelings were created by the actions of other people; we couldn't take care of ourselves; others had to do it for us. The part of me that hurt couldn't accept love from within myself because I had no way to receive self-love. Nor does anyone else. Salvation is not an 'inside' job; it is the outcome of being nourished by others."
Harville Hendrix, Getting all the Love You Want

Then suddenly

Then suddenly you’re left
all alone with your body
that can’t love you
and your will that can’t save you.
Rainer Maria Rilke, Rilke’s Book of Hours: Love Poems to God

Storytelling

"The storyteller takes what he tells from experience — his own or that reported by others. And he in turn makes it the experience of those who are listening to his tale. The novelist has isolated himself. The birthplace of the novel is the solitary individual, who is no longer able to express himself by giving examples of his most important concerns, is himself uncounseled, and cannot counsel others. To write a novel means to carry the incommensurable to extremes in the representation of human life. In the midst of life’s fullness, and through the representation of this fullness, the novel gives evidence of the profound perplexity of the living."

Tentando agarrar o universo / i am restless / betting against totality

"God is in the detail"
Aby Warburg

"We are what we remember. What we have in us they can't take away from you. What you carry with you, the bastards can't touch."

Eu convoco as lembranças do passado,
Suspiro pelo que ontem fui buscar,
Chorando o tempo já desperdiçado,
Afogo olhar em lágrima, tão rara,
Por amigos que a morte anoiteceu;
Pranteio dor que o amor já superara,
Deplorando o que desapareceu.
Posso então lastimar o erro esquecido,
E de tais penas recontar as sagas,
Chorando o já chorado e já sofrido,
Tornando a pagar contas todas pagas.

"To be in love is to be in the future tense. It's to think things will have a meaning tomorrow."

Crianças, aprendam a separar as duas coisas.
