The self is always embedded, contextualized.

The self is always indistinguishable from the person, the person with his body, the culture, the world, biology, all sorts of natural forces and contingencies... And to pretend that in any sense we can pull away and look at the self as something detached, and act as if we are entirely autonomous, is illusory, it's imaginary, it just makes no philosophical sense.

The self on which the notion of free will depends is an impossible notion of the self.

(the idea of...) Consciousness is something that's vastly overrated.
